Question:

What size Riedell skate would I wear?

I've been using some really basic beginner skates, and am asking for some Riedells for Christmas. ;D

I am interested in the Riedell Bronze Medallion 280 skates with MK 21 blades ((that's a good skate, yes? xD)), and wear a size 5 1/2 in American street shoe size.

Please help! =)

  1. I had to wear 2 sizes bigger than my shoe size (but i wear jackson). I would just say u wanna make sure u have a tiny bit of growing room but u dont wanna have any movement of ur foot in the boot! (been there done tht, had blisters, but i used a bunga pad after). Make sure there is alot of support. Im getting the jackson classic with the larger toe pic and upgraded blade by jackson=)! BAck to the topic tho ahha. Make sure the toe pic is large enuf for jumping if ur at tht level. trust me it will help. GOOD LUCK!!

  2. I would get professionally fitted at a skate shop to ensure your Christmas present is the right fit for your foot!!!  :)  Skate brands all run differently -- none run true to shoes size and all of our feet are different.  Most of us can just buy shoes from the store and not worry about width.  In skates, the size and width measurement is important for comfort of the fit.

Riedells are great basic skates.  Get a recommendation from your coach or the shop as to which model to get.  Reidell has a great selection.  Check out their site, reidellskates.com, and compare your skating level to their recommendation chart.  They may also have a sizing chart to help you get an idea of what size to get.

For Christmas, my family used to get me gift cards or certificates for the skate shop so I could purchase my boots and blades.  They didn't have to know anything about sizing boots or blades or brands or anything....when I had saved enough, I would take my certificates in and get what I wanted.  :)

  3. You really should be measured by a professional boot fitter.  When you are spending this much on skates, you should get the right fit and it is very important to your progress to have a skate that fits right.

The 280 is a nice skate, but if you can bump it up it to the 320, it will last you a lot longer (if your foot has stopped growing, if not the 280 will probably be fine).   I do recommend the Jubilee blade over the MK 21.  I don't feel like the MK 21 is always the same blade - we have gotten some weird ones, but the Jubilee is very nice for a stock blade.
