I am 6'3, 260 pounds. Big guy. Looking for my first streetbike, but in no way am I a beginner. Been riding motorcycles and quads for 10 years now. I was looking at The honda Cbr 600rr. But I think it could be a little small for me... Any suggestions if I need to step up to a liter bike? Also im thinking I will need to have new springs put on the shocks to accommodate my weight.

Thanks for the help.

  1. Maybe something larger like a BMW could suit you well?  They are pricey as h**l, but very comfortable for bigger people.  The Triumph Sprint is also favored by a 6'3" guy at work who is all legs & arms.

If you haven't ridden a STREET bike, your experience with quads is useless and you ARE a beginner.  Street bikes are worlds apart from riding dirt, and if you try to ride a CBR like a YZF you will highside your 260-lb butt in no time.

  2. yeah that CBR is gonna be crampy as well. I know a guy 6'2" with a 2006 CBR1000RR and he looks funny riding it.

Sport bike aren't really for the tall guys man. Just go to a dealership and sit on a few and see which offers the best comfort.

  3. I'd suggest you avoid sportsbikes for comfort.  My VFR 750 was sports/touring & very comfortable. I'm 6', 230. Now I have a 2002 Ninja 600 for commuting, that year was more upright than newer ones. Bandits are hard to find but comfortable.

If people ride 2up they probably weigh 260 so I wouldn't  worry about that.

Put a tall windscreen on too, maybe a Givi.

  4. +1 VFR. It's amazingly comfortable for me. I strayed over to the CBR, but have since replaced it with another VFR for comfort reasons. I'm 5'11'', and my knees were practically hitting my chest on a F4i. I can't imagine what the RR woulda done to me.

On the other hand, you can buy aftermarket peg brackets and risers for a sports bike to relax the ergos. But you'll have to figure several hundreds of dollars to make those changes.

At 6'3", whenever you walk up to a guy wearing full race leathers, you'll have noticed that 9 times out of ten you're head and shoulders taller than him. That's a hint.

  5. You don't put a toddler on a Hayabusa

Harness your skills on a 600cc, literbikes are just heavier and faster, same size almost. 1000cc literbike is a raw animal at almost any RPM, that is why they are so dangerous in the hands on a beginner. A 600cc is very manageable.

If you feel cramped on a 600 supersport try looking at sport tourers, a naked bike, etc. Like a Ducati Monster, Benelli, Bimota, Aprilia.

    Look at the Honda VFR800, its a V4, like a motogp bike. Not a V-Twin, V-4.
