  1. Find the point of the horse's shoulder and then go straight back to behind the front leg. This is about where the top of your cinch ring should rest, give or take a bit depending on how your horse is built. Then measure from there, under his belly and up to the same spot on the other side. Remember when you tighten the cinch it can stretch an inch or more until broken in,depending on the material it's made from. The center of the cinch should always be on the center groove of the horses belly and your latigo and billet lengths should be equal.

  2. Mine is  16.4 and i use a 36" bc it gives him room when we put alfalfa out

  3. As the first poster stated a 32" cinch will fit anything from a 15 hand horse all the way up to 16.3 hands (I have 3 mohair cinches that work GREAT!.).  I also swap billets and latigo off my little pony saddle and use those cinches so the little ones can ride.

  4. i own a QH that is 16.3 and i bought him a size 32 cinch...he was in healthy weight as well...

  5. I don't ride western anymore, but I would measure my horse then go ask the tack shop people. They should know.

  6. Every horse is different. Purchase several sizes and see what fits him best. You can always return or resale what doesn't.

  7. There is a way to measure.  This website gives good instructions:
