My son is 53 inches tall (4ft 4in) and weighs 62 lbs. I want to get him a new bike for his 10th birthday. I'm not sure what size to look for. I know I want one that is made of light weight material and has shocks (he likes to jump) but won't cost me an arm and a leg. I'd like to keep it under $150 if possible. Any pros out there that can point me in the right direction? Pretty please :-)

  1. let him decide on his own. Thats what my mom did. If he is smart enough he will pick one that he is most comfortable with.

  2. go to the bike store and have a chat. Advice is free. You have his height so they can reccomend the size

  3. visit Walmart and let him choose.

  4. i would recomend a Crown  bicycle

    Check out www.crowncycleco.com

    great cruiser models

  5. You need a 20"  The haro Z20 or Raleigh.  I would go to a bike shop and ask for a recommendation.  I don't think you should buy a disposable bike from a department store.  A boy that is looking for performance will need a quality bike.  I have seen the Raleigh for 135.  The others are in the 160-175 range.  Trek, Schwinn, Giant all good

  6. I agree that a 20 inch bike would probably be the best as it will work for a few years.  Skip Wal-Mart and the other department stores.  yes the price is lower but you get what you pay for and they do not hold up as well.  Go to an area bike store give them your sons height and what he wants the bike for and they can help you pick out the best one for him.  I couldn't tell you for sure but I think our sons bike is a mongoose, and we went to the bike store and got it and paid about 175, he has had it a year and it still works for him and is holding up really well compared to his sisters which I got 4 months ago at Wal-Mart.
