  1. Jorgie....

The rule of thumb is to figure out what your boat weighs fully loaded....people, outboard, gasoline, & equipment.  You should have a minimum of 2 pounds of thrust per every 100 pounds of weight.  The higher thrust the better the pushing power you will have in wind or current.  But, be careful because to high can be overkill.

Also, a lot of lakes these days are electric only (NO Gas Outboards)

  2. mikoda 46ib thrust with a good battery, I've got one that runs 8 hours on one battery

  3. Hi there....

I have a 16ft  sportcraft. Its a heavy older boat tri hull....  I use a 50lb thrust endura by minn kota.  We use it as a back up.  ad it pushed our boat about a mile back to the boat ramp when our motor died.

If i could afford it i would go for the most thrust you can get  above 50  .   Beleive it or ot  walmart have them .. I believe thay have a 55lb.   If you are lucky you can get one from ebay ..

You may also want to look at a small  outboard as a spare something like a 3 or 5 hp.   that would do..  Briggs and stratton  do them for around $800  which is less expensive than some of the trolling motors rated at 70+lbs.

Just watch the wieght on the transom. Thats why i have the electric trolling motor.  Also .. its handy when fishing..

    I hope this helps...
