IF you are looking for a racing suit like a one piece speedo, I would definately say a 38.  Even if you are really tall like 5'10"-6'2".  If this is a recreational suit, still a 38.  A size 10 pant is a size 34 suit and a size 18 pant is a size 40 suit.  You dont need the 40.  All suits seem to fit tight but they stretch 4 inches in the water.  Personally nike, and speedo are cut a little skimpy in the chest and rear , I prefer TYR. I'd go ahead and look at the sizing charts to see what would fit you best. I'd suggest trying on some suits, and depending on whether you are planning on using it for racing, or leisure will depend on what size you really want to get. Usually my leisure or practice suits are 1-2 sizes larger than my racing suits. Racing suits are suppose to fit very tight so usually you order them a little smaller. Usually it is best to try on suits before you know what size you usually wear because the sizing can change from brand to brand and style to style of suit. Good luck finding a suit!
