  1. The standover rule doesn't really work anymore since so many bikes have sloping top tubes.

If I had to guess, at 6' 4" a 61cm is probably close to a fit for you. Weight is not important. I'm 6' 2" and ride a 58.

As others have stated, your local shop is the best place to get fitted. But, you can do the same measurements on your own. Take a look at this calculator for help:

  2. This is going to sound like a canned answer, but I am new to cycling and followed the same advice....go to your Local Bike Shop to get fitted.. Most LBS will let you ride the bike and have someone watch to see if it is the right bike for you.  When I went into the store just to look, the guy there said that a 16 inch was probably what I needed, but once we took it out for a spin, he said that an 18 inch would be a better fit....and he was right!!!

  3. To find out if a bike is the right size for you, there should be clearance of aproximately 1 cm between your crotch and the top bar when you stand over it.

To set the height of the seat you should be able to reach the ground with the tips of your toes when your foot isn't on the pedal, and your knee should be almost straight (because you don't want it to lock) when it's on the pedal at the bottom of it's rotation

  4. Here you go...a simple little chart to follow, compliments of d**k's Sporting Goods.
