What size bike do you need for someone 5'5" ?

Visit a bike shop and try out a few....different frames may fit you in different sizes.  

For a mountain bike, you'll probably want a 15" or smaller.  For a road bike, in the range of 47cm-50cm.  

If you're looking for a road bike, take the time to work with a good shop and pick a frame that really works for you.  With a mountain bike it's not quite as critical, but road bikes can be uncomfortable if you're on the wrong frame.  A little time spent learning and testing will pay off bigtime if you plan on doing any serious riding or longer distances.
