  1. boards don't hit back! stop wasting your time. find an "opponent" and do some REALISTIC training, HONESTLY!

  2. You should not worry about that. Your instructor should have you covered. As a white belt, your main concern is learning technique. I know it is fun to break the boards though, I was involved in Tae Kwon Do for many years. Just remember that good technique will help you more than power. Most of all, have fun! Good luck!

  3. It is my personal opinion that 'breaking boards' is the biggest theatrical joke in martial arts. It's stupid stunts like this that make people laugh at you when you say you know karate. There are to kinds of fighting:

    1) The kind that looks really cool. This is scientifically known as Hollywood c**p.

    2) The kind that actually works and is gonna save your *** in a real fight.

Other than that I don't know how to answer your question. Never having been attacked by a board, I don't know how to fight them.

  4. generally 12"x12"x1"  #2 or #3 white pine  (the numbers are measures of how many knots per foot or so).

i used to buy an 8ft long board of 1x12 and cut it into foot long sections

  5. Okay, so if you have to do a hammer first, then you should definitely do a thick board to get more points. n_n. That'd be nice.

  6. The smallest one available. you need to train small and work up.
