What size boat do i need to sail down to the caribbean?

Looking to sail to the caribbean with a few buddies, and possibly across the world to australia, asia etc, can you tell me some boat sizes i would be looking at? and in the price range of 15000-20000 with 5000 set aside for fixer uppers

Depends upon how much boat you want.  My uncle sailed with a couple of his buddies from San Francisco to Hawaii in a 32 foot sail boat.  Then a few years later he and the same folks flew to the  Caribbean and chartered a sail boat that they sailed themselves around all of the islands.  That was rather than buying one.  But they all had great sailing skills and that sail from SF to Hawaii was actually a race that they came in second place in.  So they knew what they were doing.

I think a 32 footer or larger would do you but you should go talk to some people who sell sail boats.
