There are many debates in what size to use. Depends on your size and hands. I preferred 16 to 18 ounces and maybe 14. The reason for the bigger gloves because I am a big person and yes it takes away my power but the smaller gloves, 12 ounces, will hurt someone badly and that is not what I am trying to do. The 12 ounces gives you more power and handspeed.

  1. 14 or 16 oz.  I'm a smaller guy, so I couldn't tell you much about big guys like yourself

  2. It just depend on your hand size, really. For me, I like to use 12 ounce gloves, 90% of the time. Also, I have somewhat small hands.

  3. i used 14 for full covered glothes.  i use cutoffs for bag training.

  4. I boxed mostly at light heavyweight.  For sparring, I always went with 16 oz gloves.  No need to hurt my hands or hurt my sparring partner.  We are just training.  I prefer going with heavier gloves because when you get in the ring, your arms will be conditioned better.  You will feel much faster with the lighter gloves on and your arms won't fatigue as fast.  I trained with a heavyweight who would spar in 20 oz gloves just for that reason.

  5. 16 oz. That's the best size to use when sparring.

  6. If you are in a bigger weight class you should use no less than 16oz gloves. That's regulation for heavyweights.

  7. Use 16 minimum.

  8. 16oz

  9. 12oz. but im only 170lbs....i train mitts and bags with 16oz. to build power and speed but not when sparring
