What size girth should I get?

My saddle is 16.5" (English) and most of the horses I ride are about 14 or 15 hands. Some of them are wider/narrower than others but none of them are really huge or small. About how many inches is a medium-sized girth?

  1. for my 14.2 hand pony we had a 28 inch girth.

for my 16.2 horse was had a 52 inch girth.

horses will have different sizes no matter the hieght, i would go for at least a 28 inch girth, and get a girth extender, that way you're sure it'll fit more of a verity of horses.

  2. A 28 inch girth would be a dressage girth.....

there are variables, how long your billets are, elastic on the girth or no...

    I'd probably get a 44 or 46 and a girth extender.

  3. For my 15.2 mare I use a 48". A larger pony at the barn uses around a 46". I'd say a 46" or so is average, but it's hard to say.

  4. 46" would probably be the best.  My 48" fits my Azteca but then he's pretty wide.  It fit most of my TB type horses for the past nearly 40 years, then I got smaller horses...LOL

  5. you will probably be safe with a 46" girth.

  6. some where a round 52 inches

  7. i would go with a 48 it is easier to make it tighter than to try to make it stretch.
