What size gravel is used for under a fiberglass pool or spa?

you can either use sand or 1 inch gravel or is it washed gravel?

I would think the smallest size gravel to prevent holes being made from the weight of the pool. Pea Gravel  I believe is the smallest. Sand is less likely to puncture. If they are telling you 1"gravel then I suppose they know what they are talking about. I would go with the sand to be on the safe side.

Is the spa not in a frame?  because my above ground spa, the tub is in the frame, doesn't touch the ground, and the frame is sitting right on the patio blocks

For your spa it can sit on anything but the people i know use pea gravlel & level it out to make it look better or sit it on their patio. For your pool sand is the only way to go! 1 inch graval is something you would use in your drivway.
