  1. use hooks that are used for shark fishing,it's called a 19/0 hook. They sell for anywhere between 18 and 30 dollars.

  2. 4/0 to 6/0 hooks will do you fine!  The rods might be a little light, but use what you got! For tuna, I prefer a penn senator in the 4 to 6 range.  I've always trolled for tuna, so the surf casting part is a mystery to me, but I would think bright and flashy tipped with a little fish would be good!

  3. For hooks, you want at least a 4/0. Generally speaking, 6/0 and 8/0 hooks will work better. You can use smaller hooks but chances of fish unbuttoning will increase. Bring an assortment of hooks so you can match your hook to the size of bait fish.

Your surf rods won't work too well. You'll wear out your reel very fast unless your reel was made especially for large saltwater fish; those special reels are quite expensive. Regular spinning fishing reels will act like a coffee grinder because gears in most spinning reels can't handle the power. The gears will grind against each other and wear out after 2 or 3 tunas. (Guess how did I found out about this. LOL)

Most people will use live bait. When you pick your bait, go after the most active bait fish (also hardest to catch) first. Active bait fish will work better. Jigs will be very handy when bites are wide open. Baiting a hook will use up too much fishing time.

  4. A BIG A$$ ONE.

  5. likethe biggest u can find

  6. a hook big enough to catch them

  7. Surf rods? You're joking right?

Definetly get some baitcasting gear, or else you'll look like a total noob. Also, its almost impossible to have a rod rated for 15-50lb. test line. I highly suggest that you shouldn't go on a overnighter for your very first trip, you'll be completely confused on what to do with things such as troll rotation, the lingo used such as "color", and "hot rail".

Well, anywway, you'll need 1/0 to 5/0 hooks for Yellowtail, Dorado, Bluefin, and Yellowfin. These 1/0 to 5/0 hooks should be used with sardines. Size 4 and size 6 hooks if you'll be fishing with anchovies for the albacore.

Spectra backing is encouraged, but 25lb or 30lb mono will do fine. Rods should be no bigger than 7'. Reels should be a low gear ratio for bait fishing, and 2-speed for jig fishing.
