  1. This the horse racing section. There is a Pets<Horse category where you will probably get more and better answers to your question.

  2. at one time i was a jockey,i am now to old to ride race's but still take horse's to the post.a man of your stature could use a 15.2 hand horse, take it from me.

  3. 15 hands is not a small horse. A small horse would be something under 14 hands. Horses even ponies can carry a lot of weight. They are very powerful animals and not to be taken lightly. Even a pony can cause serious injury or death to a rider. A 15 hand horse can easily carry 300 pounds with no problem, unless the horse is old and arthritic which would limit his ability to be athletic anyway. The real question here is....is the horse what you want, does he do what you want him to do, is he easy to ride, does he jump the height with ease, does he have endurance that you want, and do you enjoy riding him. That's the bottom line.

  4. You are not too big for a 15 hand horse. You should ride with what you are comfortable with. Most horses can carry 132 pounds,no problem. An Icelandic horse can carry a 250 pound person all day and Icelandic horses are small.

  5. I am 4' 10" and weigh 98 lbs - My horse is 19.3hh - He jumps 6' with ease - I guess it depends on what you like and what you want your horse to do !!  I also have a mini that pulls a cart.
