What size horse rug?

ok so i'm entering a competition to win a horse rug and am not sure how the sizing works. as a rough guide only, i need to know what size rug goes on what size horse (e.g. 15hh horse needs size _' _"). thanks :)

to determine the size, you have to measure the horse from the center of his chest where the neck ties in, along his side, and to the center of his tail.  This measurement is your blanket size!  good luck!

It does depend on the shape of the horse. my daughter's takes a 6ft and he's 15 hh but he's skinny and kind of long.

Im might be getting a job at a saddlery so i have learnt these things about rugs.

It over all depends on what breed of horse you have if you have a stocky, well built up breed your looking at really a 6'0 (183cm). If you own a horse breed that is a lot finer bone structures e.g. thorougbreds then you are probably looking at about a 5'9 (175cm).

he will need about a 5"6 or possible 5"9 depending on the make of the rug. best way is measure from centre of horses chest right round to point of buttock.

If your horse is 15.hh he/she would need a 5,9 rug .

You take your tape measure from the middle of his chest to back center

5'9 but depending on if the rug is going to be worn over other rugs then i would go up a size

this is going by the size guide on my rug ok...

14.0 hh -  5' 3"  

14.2 hh- 5' 6"

15.0 hh-  5' 9"

15.2 hh- 6'

16.0 hh - 6' 3"

16.2 hh - 6' 6"

Measure from the horses centre of chest to his tail and that will be the length of the rug.  It does not make much difference height wise because some horses will have longer or shorter backs.
