The lady at the feed store said there is a problem with the mealworms. I have a very small snake. I only have experience with lizards, where you don't feed it insects any bigger than its head. Is it the same with snakes? The snake is a brown racer.

  1. feed him one day old pinkie mice snakes can eat thing twice to three times their size but 1.5 times the size of their grith is better

  2. Racers will eat crickets, tiny lizards and snakes, and newborn pinky mice.

Even a baby racer should be able to handle a newborn pinky.

  3. Crickets.

  4. I had a Speckled Kingsnake that was smaller around than a pencil and only 9-12" long, that ate a small adult mouse once he finally got a hold of it. Newborn Racers are not much smaller than that. They do have a widely varied diet though, so you could try insects, but I think if you try feeding it a pinky, you'd be surprised.

  5. Skip the crickets or any other insect for that matter. Racers are NOT insect eaters. Try small earthworms or pinkie mice. That is their diet in nature. There's no one around to cut up their food in the wild, so cutting pinkies in half is unnecessary. You'd really be amazed as to what these babies can get down their throats.

  6. Corn snakes eat pinkies right out of the egg and they are tiny. they are made to stretch a little. You go by the width of the body for snakes not the head size.

  7. you feed snakes pinky mice not insects

  8. My son has Gardeners (6) two are big and four little. Their favorite diet is worms, I've watched them chow on worms and they eat baby toads too. Go to youtube, and type in feeding gardeners, and you can click on the pics and watch them eat different things. It's cool! Good luck! Wickepedia will tell you that worms are their favorite diet.
