How many downs does a team get to make a first down? Is it true there are no free catches in Canadian football, on punts or kickoffs? Are there any free kicks, such as in American football?

  1. Length: 110 yards

    Width: 65 yards

    End zones: 20 yards

Goal posts are located on the goal lines, not at the back like in the NFL.

3 downs, or ten yards, to get a first down.

No free catch (fair catch) in CFL.  Punting team must concede 5 yards until the receiving team touches the ball.  Exception: on-side players (punter and anyone who was behind the punter) may encroach on the 5 yard space and field the ball.

Field goals: because the goal posts are on the goal lines, missed field goals that stay in play can be fielded and returned, and any on-side players can attempt to field the ball.

All kick-offs are on-side (free kick) but the ball must travel 10 yards before the kicking team can touch it.

  2. you cant convert downs into first downs

    no free catch in cfl

    no free kicks

  3. There are most definitely "free kicks" in the CFL.  Not only on kickoffs, but on punts as well, the kicker and/or any man behind the kicker when the ball is kicked is eligible to recover it.

  4. 110 yards long (not including the endzone)

    3 downs

    yes

free kicks? umm, I'm not sure what you are speaking of, but when you attempt a kick and miss it, you can get one point, and the same applies if your punt gets a touchback

  5. field is 110 yards plus endzones (also endzones are longer than NFL as well)

    3 downs

no fair catch in CFL.  There is another rule in effect.  The defensive team cannot come within 5 yards of the receiving team until they catch the ball.

Yes, after a touchdown there is a point after touchdown, same as nfl.
