  1. It depends completely on how far the projector is from the screen. The typical aspect ratio of 70mm standard film is 2:20, so if you know the distance, you can figure out the size. With the advent of DTS, Dolby Digital and Sony's SDDS it's not used much because the extra strips aren't needed for analog surround sound. IMAX still uses a version of 70mm but pretty much everyone else is done with it. Why? It's much more expensive to develope than 35mm and anamorphic tricks work just fine for wide screen.

  3. 70mm is Imax, so the screen in an Imax theater is about 60 feet high and 85 feet wide.  If a regular  theater shows an Imax movie, it is converted to DLP, HD projection on a regular size theater screen.
