I'm 5,6 feet (168cm), I chose 4,8 feet(146) snowboard for free ride - is it ok? (, today I had my first expirience in snowboarding, have heared too many advises and oppinions, which totally messed me up).

  1. i'm 5"7' and i ride a 154.

your board sounds way short. u should try something bigger. if freeride is what you're looking for, bigger would be better, because if you hit powder it will be easier to keep the nose up on a longer board.

  2. The length of the board also depends on your weight..

    146 sounds a little short. I am 5" 10' and i use a 157.

The board should be between your chin to nose for the average size board, and anywhere from the nose to eyes for a longer board.

The 146 Sounds fine for a park board because it will be easier to do spins on.

Longer boards are usually for more stability or more powder float.

  3. Your board size isn't just determined by your height, it's also determined by your weight, skills and riding style.

If you're renting make sure to tell the staff how much you weigh so that they can choose you an appropriate board.

I'm 5'6 and ride a 146.  I mostly ride the trails and haven't tried any park stuff but I like the shorter board for the control that I get form it and ease of turning.

If you're buying a board talk to the employees and tell them how many times you've been up, what kind of terrain you want to ride and have them size you up.  Make sure to check the weight range on the board too to make sure you're in it.
