I have a buddie that stands at 6'2 and he is wondering about how long his club shafts should be..........he likes to choke down on the club on a regular shaft and he thinks by going to an inch smaller will help him out. Whats the best for him?

  1. Have him go to a golf shop which has a variety of clubs, lengths and try out a few. He will soon get the idea of what feels right for him. If he gets fitted. it will be for his normal swing . It is important that his club had the proper lie angle if the chokes down on the shaft.

  2. He Could Go To A Golfsmith And Get Extensions Put On A Few To Try Out. They Are Place In The Grip End And Can Give 2 1/2 inches Or Less If Need Be. Good Luck To Ya.

  3. He might very well be right.  A lot of people think that because they're fairly tall they need longer clubs.  That isn't necessarily true.  Have a 6'2" man stand beside somebody who's 5'10", arms straight down to the sides.  Probably their finger tips will be within an inch or so of each other.  In essence the tall guy's fingertips are almost as close to the ground as the shorter guy.  My son is 6'4 and I'm 5"10.  When we stand shoulder to shoulder his fingertips are about two inches higher than mine yet he's six inches taller than I am.  He uses standard length clubs and hits them a ton.  The extra arm length allows him to create great clubhead speed.  His problem is that he's a little wild, in part I think because between his arms and the club shaft there's already a lot more distance to move than most guys.  Longer shafts would only make his problems worse.
