  1. Depends what kind you buy and what  you want them for. If you are just swimming laps with them, you don't want the adjustable kind-- they're too long and will kill your shins. Get a rubber kind (you'll find at swim stores-- Speedo, etc.) and have them be just tight enough that you have to wiggle your bare toes to get it on, but no pinching. Once your foot is wet if they are too loose your foot will slide out from the constant up and down motion. I've been a speed swimmer for 12 years, so I hope this helps!

  2. they need to be fairly firm as wet they will become slippery. However you need to get them on even when dry so firm but not too tight.

  3. Well, I can answer this question for you if flippers are swim fins which it sounds like what you're talking about.

I'm a certified scuba diver & I skin dive, therefore, I use swim fins quite a bit. They don't shrink in the water so don't worry about that & don't buy them too loose or too tight. If they feel too tight, you're feet will be very sore in a short period of time while your swimming.

Spend a little money & make an investment, they last forever!! Make sure you buy a pair that is adjustable. The ones that don't adjust make it hard to get a perfect fit & they quality isn't as good as the adjustable ones.

The adjustable ones have a strap that covers the back part of your ankle & you can tighten them to fit your needs. Also, they do come in different sizes so know your foot size & make sure you try them on & learn how to adjust them before you buy them.

I would highly recommend that you find the nearest scuba diving shop to you & buy the fins there. They have the best & if you're going to swim a lot then invest in a good pair that will last. If you can't find a scuba diving shop in your area then you can buy them on the internet at www.amazon.com. They will show you a photo of the fins, you can buy them using your credit card & you'll receive them, by mail, in about 3-5 days.

    GOOD LUCK!!!
