What size outboard motor is right....

I just bought an older 13.5 foot fishing boat and need to get an outboard thats going to allow me to troll and get around the lake at a fair speed... I don't nee to race anyone or anything.. I just don't want to be the slowest boat on the lake.... Any suggestions are welcome

  1. Check your USCG plate for maximum.

    A 15 hp should push it nicely.


  2. If it is an aluminum hull 15 horse is enough, even eight would do for fishing..

    25 would be stupid overkill

  3. What on the tag if none look on boatrader .com for your boat and see what they have for power>But 10 hp would be safe>>

  4. If you are just going fishing on a lake then a 15hp is fine, but if you are going fishing on a river I would recommend a 20hp. You really don't want to be on a river an not have the horsepower to get back up the river.
