  1. As a kid I fished all over the state of Louisiana in 14' jonboats with a 6hp rude.  Good enough but 10 would be better.  Course our trolling motor was a boat paddle.  ;)

30lb trolling motor would be more than enough.

  2. I have a 15HP gas motor and an 85 Thrust trolling motor on mine. It's not a speed demon, but the trolling motor will move it up river with an 8 knott current and the gas job will take it anywhere i need or want to go.

  3. I would reccomend any thing from a 15 Hp to a 25 Hp. It gets you to your spot quick but still is light enough to take off and on.

    A trolling motor i recomend a 30 to a 35 lbs minkota motor.

  4. Less is more!  You have a boat that is not designed to go fast in a place that is not best for going fast.  Go for a four stroke of between 6 and 10hp - you have no tides or currents to fight and this will be nice and frugal.  For trolling consider an electric motor - if the main engine has a charging capacity this will be a nice combination.  If your boat is like this you will see they recommend 7hp. http://www.directboats.com/waco14jonboat...

Though this one goes up to 20hp:
