I'm considering writing a short story but I want word to be set up so I'm writing on the same size paper as a proper book, so I know how many pages I have actually completed

  1. Use A-4 paper, the Font should be something that is easily readable (most publishers prefer Times New Courier in Size 12). Double-space between lines, leave big margins, number the pages, ensure that each page identifies YOU as the author, and don't count pages but WORDS.

Read the trade press- Writers News is an excellent magazine and a good introduction to the game.

WORK HARD AND GET USED TO REJECTION- it took me over five years to break into the business.

Don't become discouraged- people think that having something published is a validation of their skill as a writer, but the truth is that there are thousands of reasons for rejection. By all means allow criticism of your work, but remember that it's only one persons opinion. I don't know a single writer that thinks the Da Vinci Code is a good book, but I'm fairly certain that Dan Brown couldn't give a d**n.

Good luck. It's totally worth it.

  2. About A5?

  3. Hey. the common size for the book page is A8. I know this because my dad works as a book publisher. He told me, yours

    Lucy x

  4. Use whatever size you want as the publisher will change the size to suit the marketing of the story.

  5. A bit smaller than A5

good luck on your story =)

    xx
