What size picture would print a 4x6 picture??

Will a picture that is 500x375 print a 4x6 picture or is that too small?? What about 1024x768?? Thanks!!

  1. The ideal for a 4x6 print is 1200x1800 @ 300 dpi.


  2. 2-3 megapixels should suffice.  1024x768 is less than 1 megapixels.  You could print from that resolution, but the result will not be high quality.  At 300 ppi, it could be printed to 3x2.5".  At 4x6, it will be quite pixelated.  500x375 is too small.

  3. The size it prints depends on the resolution--on a web screen the res is 72dpi (dots per inch). On a printer it could be 150dpi or 200dpi or 300dpi--up to 600dpi.

    For a 200dpi resolution at 4x6 the original image would need to be 800x1200, so the 1024x768 is probably a better bet for a nice sharp print.
