What size pier caps for one and a half brick piers?

I have built brick piers at ends of a new garden wall; the wall is 13 inches wide and the piers (pillars) 13 inches square, What size should the sides of the stone pier caps be to give a projection that looks right? The pier caps are 3 inches thick on a bed of mortar.
