What size psu do I need?

I have a amd phenom quad core, two optical drives an asus wi fi ap motherboard an hd 4870 gpu and two sata hard drives... currentlyly use a 530 but if i wanted to upgrade some things i'd like a larger one

go with a 650 watt to 700 watt.  This should give you plenty of room to expand if you would like

I calculated 408 Watts with your spec in mind but you need to try yourself.

I would go for a 750 watt or bigger
