What size quilt should i get?

So I buying new furniture and what not for my new bedroom and I want to get one of those quild that you lay on top of the comforter. I've go a queen sized bed, with a queen comforter, but is the quit supposed to be a size smaller than the actual comforter?

Quilts usually hang down a little lower than comforters, so that is probably why people say to go one size smaller.  If you plan to open it up to sleep with, I'd stay with a queen size.  If it's just to fold across the bottom of the bed, a twin is sufficient.
