  1. Answer above is correct.  It depends on many variables, so you should check at your local shop if that is an option.

    Also, be aware that there are several different ways that bicycle manufacturers calculate their sizes, so not every 56, for example, is the same.  If you are a 56 then you're in luck because that's the most common size you'll find in used bikes, and that should enhance your options if you're going that route.

    To complicate matters, most of the newer compact (sloping top tube) geometry bikes are sized as small, medium, etc. rather than in the length of the seat tube.

  2. Probably around 54-56 cm, but you should never buy a bike without a test ride.   Seat tube length is one thing, but there are a lot of other dimensions that are different from one bike to the next that can make or break comfort and efficiency.
