  1. idk i'm between the 5'5 one and 6'

i ride and use the 5'5 board it's good quality for tricks and stuff

  2. i think you should look into a size around 6'0 or 6'2. and if you wanna pull some tricks get a more thinner board so you will be able to carve  better. if the waves are a little sloppy and mushy where you surf then get like a 6'10 retro fish because they do good in that stuff. but anyway goodluck.

  3. well i would say NO to the 5'5(way to small for a transition from a long board) i would go for the 6' or the 6'1. now I'm not suggesting buying one at play it again sports because they might not be good one or even hand shaped.

but do you know the names of the two boards?

6' and 6'1 really doesn't make much dif. so it doesn't really matter. just get the better board.

if you were surfing every day i would say it would be worth it to buy a good board, but if you go 1 a month than PAS might be a fine place to go

cesar: thats great if you CAN go 3-4 times a week but maybe she lives near a tame surf break. or maybe some people have to do other thinks, you know like a JOB

  4. I know you probably don't want to hear this, but why don't you go to a SURF SHOP, not 'Play it Again Sports' . The people who own and operate surf shops are experts in the industry, and can help you get a good used board, that suits your size, skill level, local breaks and fits your budget. Let's face it, the folks at 'Play it Again Sports' sell all kinds of used sports gear, and are rarely (maybe NEVER) surfers or knowledgeable about surfing.

Also, you didn't tell us much about how good you are. I know you want to try more complicated moves and maneuvers than you can pull off on a longboard (by the way, I taught my dog "tricks", magician do "tricks'), but that is the sort of thing that you can spend time rapping with the folks at a surf shop about.

Be careful of what you read here on line. There are lots of really well meaning young folks who have neat answers about surfing, but at 55, I tend to classify anyone under 25 as a kid. After I found this site, I figured that I could answer a few questions, and spread the 'good news' of surfing. After you learn to swim and master the ocean, get your REAL advice from a surf shop, where industry professionals earn their rent money selling surfboards.

Now, guessing, based on your size, and the fact that have done at least some surfing, I'd say go with the 6'1", but since that might be a piece of junk, and really a poor design for 2/6 foot waves, I am reluctant to say that, and give you bad advice.

THE REAL BOTTOM LINE IS: Go to a Surf Shop, not a computer. The pros there can give you the right answers!!

Good luck. I have been surfing since 1966, and it the greatest stoke of all.

  5. probably 6 foot dont transfer down from a long board to a 5'5 biggest mistake you'll ever make

  6. Go w/the 6'1" or bigger if they have it maybe a 6'6".  If you can afford/find a twin keel fish 6'0" would be a better fit in that their thicker, wider, and fairly flat which will help you paddle better, can still duck dive, easy to catch waves, and so much faster than anything out there.  My other recommendation would be to bump surfing 2x/month bump it up to 3-4X/week and your surfing will improve dramatically.

  7. DONT GO TO PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS. worst place to get a board
