  1. Depends on how good you are, or want to be.  Are you new at skiing?  Try some 130's or 140's.  When you get good and fast, move up to 150's or 160's, or even longer.  Longer skis will generally be faster, but also require more skill to maneuver.

  2. The length depends on 3-4 things

    1. Your ability

    2. What are you doing on the mountain, all mountain, terrain park groomed runs, powder.

    3. your size and weight.

    4. how much will you improve.

From these parameters you can choose a type of ski and length.

150-170 cm for most purposes, shorter for bumps, and stunts, longer for cruising and powder.

I'm 5'11, 220, expert and ski a 170- 198 shaped ski.  No bumps or parks so I don't use the shorter lengths.

            Hope this helps.  Jim.
