  1. Rent, but I would go with a 177

  2. You should check with the ski shop. If you're interested in control than make sure the ski is just shorter than your height. Ski length is measured in centimeters & I forgot the conversion with inches & feet. I'm six feet tall & I ski on a lenght of 185 & I ski expert & fast. If you want more control, which is smart than stay with a shorter ski. This will make you turn better & will keep you from going too fast. If I were you, I would not go ver 195 in length & not less than 190. You're three inches taller than me & the 190-195 length is perfect for you since you will improve much faster on a shorter ski. You can always go up in length when you improve. Do not get a long ski & tell the employee of the ski shop why you want a shorter ski; he or she will help.

  3. You're gonna want short skis, maybe around 160-165cm. Shorter skis will give you more control than speed, but at your height and weight it isn't necessary to go very short.

  4. Rent a pair to see how they feel and then go to a shop and tell them what you just rented and see what they fit you with.

The height of the ski is only one component of fitting a ski to you.  With the technology available these days it's more dependant on your weight more than height.

The staff at the rental shop will fit you with what they think is best and once you know how that set up felt you'll have an idea of what you want.  At that point you'll have an idea to bring into a shop and their employees are usually skiiers and are well versed in different brands and size points and will set you up with the best match.

  5. you shouldn't buy if you havent tried it.  i suggest renting a really short pair of skiis for ultimate control.  you'll get the hang of it faster and then buy a longer set of skiis.

  6. Well if your interested in control, and your a beginner, I would suggest a ski between your chin and nose...For the average skier, i would suggest a ski between the chin and top of the head, however due to you being a beginner, and wanting control, I would go more towards the chin... You may want to go with something closer to the nose however, because as you get better your going to want a longer ski...But no higher than your nose...
