she's 5' 2" and 100-110 lbs. She's a beginner (has been about 8 times before, but not regularly) and can easily go down greens and blues. I don't know much about skiing, so i figured you could help.

  1. Get a pair of ski's that are near your height maybe a little shorter but as far as the weight, that has to do with your bindings on the weight and height settings.

  2. She's smaller than my kids!  New shaped downhill skis should be between your nose & chin in length.  The length you choose depends on your skiing ability (beginner = shorter) and weight ( heavier = longer end), and what type of terrain you ski on.  If  you're generally on groomed runs, or ice, look only to ability & weight, but if you're occasionally on powder, the extra length might be needed to float the weight.  Also, how athletic is your friend?  More athletic people can handle a longer ski because they have the strength to turn it in powder.

In short, for a beginner, who is in average shape, buy chin length, and let her have fun and build confidence.  Depending on her weight, she won't go as fast, but thats part of the learning process.

  3. For beginers you what skis that are about chin level.  Skis about 145cm would be about right.  you should go to a ski shop to find exactly what is right for her
