  1. The answer depends on your skill level. If you are a beginner then you should start with short skis. Long skis require skill and muscle to handle. Begin your search by renting your gear. The rental staff will put you into 'optimum' sized equipment. If the skis don't seem to 'track' and turn too easily; take them back and get a longer pair. Be sure you learn how to fasten the bindings and use the pole straps.

  2. The size of your skis will depend on how advanced of a skier you are. The more advanced the longer, the less advanced the shorter clearly. If you are a beginner I would recommend about 5 ft skis.

Poles should be sized by placing them upside down and putting your hand under the basket. Everyone has a different preference for pole sizes, but ones that you can hold comfortably are the ones you'll want to go with.

Boots are normally about a size bigger than your shoe size because of the thick socks. You try them on just like normal shoes but when trying them on lean forward in them to get the feeling of what they'll feel like when you're skiing. If your toes are hitting the front of the boot they are too small, but if they feel loose when you buckle them up they're too big.

If you go to a ski shop they will be able to size you correctly. Tell them what you're looking for and let them find what's right for you. I would never order ski equipment online because it's just too hard to tell if they will work or not so if this is why you're asking this question, please just go to a ski shop and get properly fitted. The right gear for skiing will make it so much more enjoyable than gear that fits and works poorly.
