Question:

What size storm door to buy and installation tips?

I want to buy and install a storm door this weekend but have a few questions. I measured the opening (inside of door jam to inside of door jam and got 35". Doors come in 34 and 36 not 35, so what size do I buy? I measured the actual front door and it is 36" so I am guessing I would need a 36" is this correct? I have not installed a storm door before but I am fairly handy and it looks like an easy Saturday morning project. Any tips or things to watch out for when installing? Thanks in advanced - Dan

  1. I recently bought mine at Lowes.  I bought a security door because I liked the look of it.  Found the same one at Home Depot for $1000 more.  Check around for what youu want.  Mine was easy to install, but I would not recommend getting one bigger than the door way.  Check when you pick yours up.  Thet would be able to advise you best.

  2. $1000 dollars more?  Really?

  3. Dan, yes you answered your own question, but that is how we all learn.  When you put your storm door on, be very careful of what side you cut.  Remember "measure twice, cut once."  I made the mistake of cutting the wrong side and had to go buy another storm door.  Hopefully, you dont have to cut anything and it just goes up with no problems.  Good Luck!
