  1. Big surf board are for begginers, short for experts.

You can learn surfing in http:www.greeniguanasurfcamp.com, they are expert teachers and the waves on dominical beach are great.

Other good spot to practice surfing is Pavones beach, more surfing info in:

  2. hallow WAVE

  3. It depends on where (in Costa Rica) you are going.

You probably want about a 6 foot surfboard... dont go with a long board, you cant do anything, they are boring.

If you are not an experienced surfer, which I am guessing you are not because you are asking this question, I am not sure that Costa Rica is the best place to learn... there are some mellow waves that would be OK for you, but there are some other breaks that are rough and have lots of closeouts and you will get crushed if you dont know what you are doing.

  4. if your just starting out , the biggest surfboard you can afford!

the bigger the better! it will float better , you can get your balance easier and you will learn quicker.

Once you progress , you may want to buy a short board , in this case it should be slightly larger then you , id say anything from 6 ft to 6ft 3
