I have a 14gallon tank with 2 otocinclus catfish(Tot and Oto) and 1 figure eight puffer(Ninja )(about 1.5inch) and theyre all healthy and plump.

Heres where i need your help: im planning to get 1 more figure eight puffer(Samuri) and 1 more oto(Tater)

i know the otos really dont occupy much space because most the time theyre suctioned to the plants or glass but will the two figure eights be okay in the 14gal? Ive been thinking about returning my 14gal for 20gal at walmart, the price diff is only $20 so its not so much the price as it is the space to put it. I live in a college dorm so not much space around here which is the only reason im hesitant about the 20gal. Whichever tank i stick with it will be heavilly planted so that the line of sight can be broken between the two puffers in case they dont want to play nice which im not too worried about b/c Ninja is a pretty mild mannered puffer.

Oh and please dont tell me i need bigger than a 20gal for 2 puffers. Dorm rules dont let me keep anything bigger than a 20. Once i graduate and if the puffers get big enough with time then ill upgrade..

  1. do any of you listen to what the questioner says??? This person is not allowed to have a bigger tank because of dorm rules which I can totally relate with. I have never heard of a figure 8 puffer but aren't puffer fish marine fish? (sorry for my ignorence) But if it is tropical then I would get another otocinclus or a more colorful fish? simply because of variety and with otocinclus they should be kept in groups of 2 or more.

i don't think you should buy that many puffers they will be pretty aggressive as they age

  3. with either a 14 or a 20 you really only have room for one puffer.  you can get another oto either way, I just hope the puffer stays calm for their sake.

  4. I've got a 55gallon I'll sell you.

  5. You are so lucky. All the colleges in my area don't allow anything larger than a ten. If your puffers dislike one another, you could always buy a tank divider. They're pretty cheap.

  6. puffers can be rather territorial, it might be worth  upgrading simply to have the extra space...
