  1. Ironhand is right about the prices at truck stops, but in my experience, if you can wait you can catch everything on sale eventually.

And I'd vote "Definitely" on the GPS. I used to drive expedited freight back when GPS units were new and too expensive, and almost every load had bad directions for either the pickup or delivery - sometimes off by several miles. Make sure it has a complete database for the US and Canada, and one of the models with real-time traffic updates would be extremely handy.

The best place to look for this sort of stuff is at the local truck stops. But look only. Take a pad and pencil with you to write down model and manufacturer data.

Truck stops are incredibly expensive. After all, you are pretty hard pressed to take a big-rig and trailer to the local mall for something that the mall isn't going to have.

After the information is in hand, search the web for the manufacturer and models.

As for the television, how much room does he have? That is pretty much the limitation here.

Be certain that you get one with a digital tuner. The older analog-tuner sets are going to be very cheap but after February 2009, they will be useless because all television broadcasts will be digital only.

Most televisions and accessories like coffee makers and the like can be purchased for mobile operation (12V), but you can purchase a pretty good power INVERTER to convert the vehicle power to household power. This may well be a more inexpensive option, even though you are buying an extra device.

Just some thoughts borne from experience.
