I'm 15, and I'm 5'2". I am thinking full-size is what I need, but I'm not completely sure.

  1. There's a really simple way that my teacher taught me to check the size violin you need, way back when I was small. Take your violin, and hold it (securely) under your chin. Take your left hand and reach out and around the top of the scroll. If you can comfortably reach around it and tuck your fingertips under it, then that is a proper size. If you are reaching way over the scroll, then it's too small, or if you can't reach all the way around it, it's too big.

Take a trip into a local violin store and ask to look at a full size violin. Try that little tip, and play on it for a while, and see if it's comfortable for you.

I'm 5'3", and I have really little hands, but I play really comfortable on a full size violin. If you have pretty average size hands, you ought to be fine on a full-size.

  2. I would think a Full size violin will do fine, and will eliminate the need to change later.

I have known very small payers who played full size

  3. Full size.  No question about it.
