Question:

What skates (boot and blade types) should I buy for synchro skating? Synchro, Dance or Freeskate?

I skate on a very strong pre-novice level synchro team and it is likely that we may compete in festival junior this season because of our success last year. I need new skates but am unsure about what to buy. Skaters on my team have a mixture of synchro, dance and freestyle boots and blades. Any opinions?

  1. Dance boots and blades are wonderful for synchro skaters.

Most every boot manufacture has dance boots. I would go with the company that your feet fit good in. I have a link to the Jackson Women's Elite Supreme Dance

The dance blades have smaller toe picks, so If your doing freestyle skating I would suggest the pattern 99's instead.

  2. I haven't heard of synchro skates.  Personally as I wouldn't expect you to be jumping much, if  at all, in synchro skating I would have suggested dance skates as the blades are usually shorter then freestyle blades. The leather in the boots is also lighter and more flexible than freestyle boots . Therefore they should take less time to break in.

  3. Riedell has these really great charts online for boot/blade reccomendations based on the purpose and your skating level.

If you'd like to go with Riedell, based on these charts, you would be best off with LS 1310, Elite Royal 900, Gold Star 375, or Silver Star 355 boots. For blades, try Vision Synchro or Team Precision from MK Blades, or Wilson Precision from Wilson Blades.

Here are the charts if you would like to see them for yourself. You can also look at the blade manufacturers' own charts, but they pretty much say the same thing.

  4. love synchro!!! I have the jackson elite supreme dance boot and the super dance 99 blade and i love them! its perfect for synchro because the thinner blade makes all your turns faster and easer to go on deep edges for the IJS! also they're really short so you can avoid clicking blades and you can spin on them well!
