Question:

What skates should I buy for Artistic Skating?

I'm a figure skater, so I am used to the ice.

- but I wanted to try artistic skating on wheels.

I've seen Artistic skaters use what look like regular Quad skates that you'd rent from the roller rink.

Is there a special type of Quad skate that I need to get to perform like a figure skater?

I found these online, are they the right type?

  1. YAY! finally an artistic skating question!!!

okay. well first of all you need to decide - do you want to do inline or regular artistic. inline artistic blades are basically a combination of inline skates and rollerblades... http://www.inlinefigure.com/snowwhite.ht...

thats a picture of the frames, you put them onto boots like the ones you use for figure skating. i use this brand, although there are a few others.

quad artistic skating, you once again use regular skating boots, and you can buy frames and wheels specially for artistic skating.

okay. warning though, both types are seriously expensive, and unless you competing, you probably shouldnt buy them right away... talk to your coach if you get one, you may be able to hire skates or buy second hand. to begin with, you will learn basic things like waltz jump, simple spins, spirals... all these can be done on either regular quads or just general rollerblades.

and NO, that pair of skates is definitely not for artistic skaters... they're just for skating round, they wouldnt survive the jumps and spins for very long... if you want to buy skates, then make sure they are for artistic skating. however you wont need them right away, because you can just hire skates from your rink. they will be much better quality, and its cheaper.

once again, dont buy skates yet... you are better off hiring til you are ready. once your coach says you are ready to move onto art blades, or til she says you should buy your own. talk to your rink, you will probably progress quickly, because of your background.

you will need a coach though. the 2 sports are VEEERY different.

but have fun. i love it, you probably will too.

check out the roll-line website for some good quads. snow white frames are what i believe to be the best inline frames... and for boots, ive always used Edea. but it gets VERY expensive and if your just doing it for fun you wont need them.

also, there are different disciplines of artistic... i assumed you were talking about Freeskate, which is like figure skating... there is also CSD, which is just like a dance routine on skates, figures (which is nothing like figure skating lol), its just tracing marked patterns, seeing your accuracy, pairs, and precision (team skating, like synchro)

    have fun!
