  1. Having been one, I can tell you that the first thing that people look for in an employee is product knowledge.  You also need a good functional ability to organize, lead others, take orders from your boss(es), have a running inventory (in your head) of roughly what you have in stock/back stock, be people-friendly but FIRM, GOOD money management skills, be able to communicate VERY well orally and in writing, know how to use basic office equipment and a cash register, can place orders with companies and be on a first-name basis with most of the reps.  Being on a first-name basis with your best customers helps a lot too.  You also need a LOT of initiative and be what the industry likes to call a "self-motivator" or a "self-starter", have a flexible schedule and be able to cover shifts for those lame-o employees that don't show up, show up late, call in sick, etc...and be willing to fire someone if it comes down to it.


  2. the willingness to do c**p works for c**p money, whilst taking all the c**p that the bosses dish out when they're getting it in the neck from head office
