  1. What do you want to be first.

                          then the guys who look a this who were once railroad men or who are can tell you. the giants of the Rail section


  2. You really dont need any skills for most departments.

    I am not being facetious, they will provide the training you need.

    Most railroad jobs, including operating (train service) jobs and track department jobs are so unlike any other job in the "outside" world that truthfully there are very little job skills learned anywhere else that would be much good.

    All you need is a willingness to work and learn, be drug free, have a positive attitude and be healthy. In an interview if they ask if you are willing to relocate you must be able to answer yes or you will probably not be considered for anything.

    Most departments will start you in an "entry level" position where you are really not expected to know the job requirements.
