I can ski well. I recently joined a ski club, so I have to join races (slalom, G slalom).

I used to rent skis but now i decided to buy my own.

I am about 1.75m, 75kg and i want a ski that is suitable for both slalom and G slalom. I can ski better with an 1.60m ski.

Please tell me brand and model. I don't want to give more than 500-600 euros, along with the blindings.

(i have boots and poles)

  1. I am 5 feet and I ski GS, and am pretty good at it, usually place 1-3 place, I have 155 skiis, and I have a Volki. If your slolluming, I would go down about 15-25 cm, but I would go no higher than 160. Oh, and if your slolluming, don't forget the hand guards!!!

  2. Before you buy new, ask around the club for who has a pair from last year that they want to replace, many of the top racers will get pairs every year and are willing to part with last years model at a reasonable price.  Also ask the coaches, and many ski instructors have top quality equipment that may be in very good shape, just a year or two old.

Since you are just starting, you will need to assess your preference of flex and response of the ski. Most  GS and S skiis have the same sidecut, hence the same turn radius, set by FIS rules, how the ski is tuned does make a big difference in how it performs.

As to brand, the top racers usually use one of the following, Head, K2, Atomic, Fisher, Rossignol, Dynastar. Because those are their sponsors. A few other factory teams were well thought of a few years back, but I've lost track of who's on what lately.

If you ask your coaches, you'll find what they are using, hence what they are representing. These may not be the best ski for you, just what the coach could get a rep deal with.

K2 and Atomic are both fairly soft flex compared to Head and Fischer, which are soft compared to dynastar.  Check each pair, for there own flex, it will vary from pair to pair.
