What software can best prevent and remove viruses?

Prevent viruses from getting into your computer is as easy as getting the right antivirus program. That's Avast 4 Home. I've used it for nearly 5 years and never had a virus successfully get past it.

But you already have a virus, right? So, get Avast and let it find and remove the virus, then it will update daily and just sit there and run quietly in the background. If you download another virus, it will stop you.

I don't know about removing - but I use Norton Virus system for home and all network at office and I have had only good luck with it. It is a little costly but good!

You should have current antivirus and firewall software/hardware, running whenever your computer is linked to the net.  If you do not, go to Download.com and download AVG for free.  You may also download a trial version of Symantec's Norton Antivirus.   I prefer free software, that works though.  In the end, you will have to purchase Norton.  Ensure your firewall is turned on or that you are running a 3rd party firewall.  Lastly, download and install SpyBot, AdAware or something similar.  All can be downloaded from Download.com or a variety of other sites.
