A Pre-amp isn't required if you have a computer. Computers can perform RIAA Equalization and Amplification to a signal just as well as a standalone Pre-amp. I'm asking about the best software that will do it in Realtime.

  1. What do you mean "realtime"?

Is your turntable hooked up to your computer soundcard?

Your response to the 1st answerer seems to imply this, but I'm not sure of it.

The other answerer assumed, as I would, that you meant you want to hook the turntable up directly to the PC speakers. That is why he said you would need a pre-amp and that software has nothing to do with it.

  2. A pre amp is required for a turntable. But not the Pre amp you may be thinking of.

You may be thinking of a control amp/pre amp that works in conjunction with a amp.

Your turntable does not produce a usable level for your PC so you will need a phono pre amp, these can be had for under $30 US.

You will not find a real time software to do this you could record the song and try to boost the level but noise would be great as well as your dynamic range would be compressed. But to do it real time you just need a amp.

Also what turntable are you using? ( some have a preamp built in) What computer hardware? What is your application? More detail would make a solution clearer.

  3. Software isn't the problem; the signal coming out of your turntable is very weak. A Pre-Amp is required to amplify it to the proper level in order to connect your turntable to a regular amp, or even your computer.
