  1. Making compost is a good one. And it is EASY! As gas prices climb even more, the cost of dirt can only be even more expensive next year. Plus as the "organic" fad keeps blossoming (no pun intended) people have been buying compost for 10 and 20 bucks a bag! Rake and collect leaves, till and turn under gardens for people while adding leaves, fruit scraps, yard clippings etc. It acts as a natural fertilizer and will boost their garden performance in the next growing season. Or start your own compost pile (grass and yard clippings, fruit and veggie scraps, twigs etc.) and spread it in gardens in the fall. You can also plant spring bulbs in the fall, or heck even clean out gutters after the leaves fall and offer snow removal services. If you offer pond services, breaking ice and leaf removal is BIG BUSINESS in the fall and winter. People who have Koi ponds pay big bucks to not have to do the dirty work in the fall and winter. They invest lots of money into filters and equipment and leave and ice are bad news. Hope these help and Good luck!

  2. Grass is generally planted in fall, along with flower bulbs. There is also a lot of raking to do. Flower beds need to be mulched to protect perennials during the the cold of winter.

Winter is a good time to cut trees, at least in the southern US. If you live in an area that doesn't freeze, you can put down walkways, and build retaining walls as well.

  3. fall is a good time for cleanup.  Buy a leaf blower and clean leaves from peoples yards. In the winter do snow plowing.
