  1. Well it depends on what part you are auditioning for, and what vocal part you are. Do not sing a song from the production unless it is specifically instructed that you do so. Also, do not come in with a song from a popular musical such as Wicked or Rent because directors hate hearing pop musical stuff. The other person is probably right in saying that you are going to want to stick with the classic stuff... Rogers and Hammerstein musicals (Oklahoma, South Pacific, The King and I, etc.) are always a safe bet, but you can also look at musicals such as Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, or most musicals from the 50s and 60s. Here is the Wikipedia article that lists the Tony Award winning musicals...

Look at the 50s and 60s to see if you are familiar with any of the shows and if you could possibly do a song from any of them. If you post the role that you want and your vocal part, I will give you some specific songs that you might want to try. Good luck on your search and at your audition!

    Edit:

    Try some of these...

You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel

Luck Be a Lady Tonight from Guys and Dolls

The Sadder-But-Wiser Girl for Me from The Music Man

Corner of the Sky from Pippin

Talk to Me from Bye Bye Birdie

    Rosie from Bye Bye Birdie

Surrey With the Fringe on Top from Oklahoma

When picking a song, also consider the acting aspect of it. Some of these songs may fit you vocally, but in your opinion they might not be very good fits for the characters you are auditioning for. If that is the case, look into other songs that the character sings in that show to see if any of them will be a good match actingwise. I wish you luck at your audition!

  2. Sing a Rogers and Hammerstein song, but not one from the Sound of Music.  Look at Oklahoma (lots of great songs in there), South Pacific, Carousel or The King and I.  If you want the part of Rolf, I'd suggest "People Will Say We're In Love" (or at least, Curly's verses of the song) from Oklahoma as it's not too dissimilar in character to "16 Going On 17".

  3. One of them songs perhaps? One that is well known and you can sing, or one from another musical. Perhaps a classic?

  4. What a wonderful musical this is.  I think it depends on what character you are auditioning  for.  But some songs  you might be interested are Edelweiss, The Hills Are Alive and Climb Every Mountain.  There are so many wonderful songs that it would be hard to choose just one.  Good luck with your audition and enjoy the musical.
