Question:

What song to sing from Wicked [need answers quick]?

I have to sing a song related to a musical I was given for a mock audition. I was given Once Upon A Mattress so I decided to do a song from Wicked because they are both spins on classic fairytales.

I don't have a very gymnastic range. My range is actually not that big at all. I can't sing too high or too low. Can someone please help me find a song I could do?

[Also: I will accept songs from other musicals that fit the criteria! Remember related to Once Upon A Mattress]

  1. your love is wicked

  2. I'd suggest I'm Not That Girl or Popular. Or you could try a song from Into the Woods. That also has to do with fairytales.

  3. The Wizard and I

    Popular

I'm Not That Girl- my favorite

    No Good Deed

  4. Maybe I'm Not That Girl, but it's in a low key.

Glinda is soprano, Elphaba is belting/mezzo-soprano, and Nessarose is mezzo-soprano.

All of the songs have some range to them.

Defying Gravity and The Wizard and I have belting, No Good Deed is the most operatic.

My suggestion is to sing along with the songs and find which one(s) you're able to stay in tune with for most of the song.

  5. I think popular would be too hard!

  6. A lot of Wicked's songs are either high (Glinda) or require big belting (Elphaba).  If you can't belt, then don't try!  The suggestion of a song from Into the Woods is an excellent idea as it's a new spin on several different fairytales.  "On The Steps of the Palace" (Cinderella's big song) is mid-range, and a lovely song, or Little Red's "I Know Things Now" is also great.  There's also a Rodgers and Hammerstein version of Cinderella which has some lovely songs (I don't know any of them well enough to recommend a particular one) - and there's another connection as the music for OUAM was written by Richard Rodgers' daughter Mary.

  7. Wicked Music is pretty difficult but

I'm Not That Girl isn't too bad

The Wizard and I is a good one too

No Good Deed has some higher parts, but it's not too bad either

    Good luck!

  8. sing popular.

its cute and easy to have fun with so you'll be very relaxed when your auditioning.

hopefully the people your auditioning for will enjoy it too...

  9. you should sing Popular. it's fun. or I'm not that girl. it's a sad song that will really move the audience

  10. Yes, sing something from Idina's repertoire then (she has a lower voice and her range is smaller). "Popular" is a cute song but it has wide leaps and Kristin Chenoweth's range is very wide.

    I recommend:

    "Defying Gravity"
